Overview
Emerging Hispanic Serving Institutions, colleges and universities where 15-24% of their student population identifies as Latine, represent a growing and dynamic segment of U.S. higher education. This work builds on my prior research examining HSIs to center this distinct and important group.

Reframing Higher Education for Refugees: Pathways,
Policies, and Community Cultural Wealth
Drawing on empirical data from focus groups conducted with a resettlement agency complemented by survey data, this mixed-methods study underscores refugees’ agency and resilience in pursuing postsecondary education.

Navigating the tension: US refugee resettlement agency support of postsecondary access
Drawing on survey data and complemented with key stakeholder interviews, we characterize how agencies frame their current populations of clients and their interests in postsecondary education, as well as the projects, programs, and policies RRAs utilize to support displaced peoples’ access to postsecondary education.

Supporting displaced students in US higher education: examining institutional policy and practice
This study analyzes how the ORR has conceptualized the purpose, access, and value of education across the P–20 continuum, with a particular focus on postsecondary education. Drawing on 40 years (1980–2020).We adopt a quantitative ethnography to systematically examine discursive links among key educational themes.

Supporting displaced students in US higher education: examining institutional policy and practice
This study threads together Critical Race Theory and racialized organization theory to examine institutional websites and key administrator interviews to consider institutional policies and practices centering on displaced learners in Houston, Texas, and Sacramento, California.
